NATUC MEETS WITH THA
A delegation of the National
Trade Union Centre will be meeting with officials of the Tobago House of
Assembly, tomorrow, Thursday July15, 2004, at the Office of the Chief Secretary,
in Tobago.
The Tobago House Assembly would be represented by
the Chief Secretary, Mr. Orville London; Mr. Jerome Keens-Dumas, Chief
Administrator and Dr. Anslem London, Secretary of Finance.
NATUC would be represented by Mr. Robert
Giuseppi, President; Mr. Vincent Cabrera, General Secretary as well as Mr.
Richard Jack of the Postal Workers Union and Lydia Peters of the National Union
of Government and Federated Workers .
The meeting will deal with the conditions of work
of workers in Tobago with a specific focus on the high cost of living which
workers face in Tobago. It is estimated that consumers including workers pay at
least 15% more for all goods and services in Tobago. NATUC is campaigning for
Collective Agreements between Employers and Trade Unions to contain a special
clause so that a Special Allowance would be paid to Tobago workers, since
according to Price Schedules, Tobago is a Special Area.
