Members of the Oilfields
Workers Trade Union hit the streets of Fyzabad during the Labour Day
2000 celebrations. The OWTU is one of the unions that emerged from the
labour uprising of June 1937 which is commemorated by the 19th June Labour
Day. Other
unions which can trade their roots back to this period include the
National Union of Government and Federated Workers (1937); Seamen &
Waterfront Workers Trade Union (1937); All Trinidad Sugar and General
Workers Trade Union (1937) and the Public Services Association (1938). |
